WooCommerce development for stores that need WordPress flexibility

By Talha AbidFiverr Level 2, 65 five-star reviewsUpwork Top Rated, 15 five-star ratings, 100% job success200+ builds since 2019Updated

I am Talha Abid, a freelance WooCommerce developer in Lahore with 45+ WordPress builds, working US hours for US clients since 2019. WooCommerce makes sense when the store is part of a bigger WordPress site or needs custom logic Shopify cannot do. I build and fix WooCommerce stores: custom product types, checkout changes, gateways, subscriptions and the speed problems that come with too many plugins.

What does WooCommerce Development include?

WooCommerce development is building, customizing and repairing online stores that run on WordPress. It is for businesses whose store sits inside a larger WordPress site. It also fits products, pricing or checkout rules that a hosted platform will not allow. As a freelance WooCommerce developer I handle setup, custom features, payment gateways and speed. You end up with a store you fully control and can extend.

A good fit if

  • Stores that live inside a WordPress site with a blog, courses or memberships
  • Businesses that need custom pricing, product options or checkout rules
  • Owners of a slow or broken WooCommerce store who need a developer to repair it

Probably not for you if

  • Owners who never want to think about hosting, updates or backups
  • Simple catalogs with standard checkout needs, where Shopify is less work
  • Stores on bargain shared hosting whose owners refuse to move

What changes for your business?

  1. 01

Custom product, pricing and checkout logic without a dozen plugins

  2. 02

A store that stays fast under WordPress

  3. 03

Payments, shipping and tax set up right the first time

What does WooCommerce Development cost, and what is in the quote?

Projects start at $599. Every item below is included. Nothing becomes an upsell later.

  • WooCommerce setup or rebuild on Elementor, Divi or a custom theme
  • Custom product types, variations and pricing rules
  • Checkout customization and gateway integration
  • Subscriptions, memberships and bookings
  • Speed optimization and plugin cleanup
  • Migration to or from Shopify

Custom checkout and product logic in WooCommerce

WooCommerce leaves the whole checkout open to a developer, which is its biggest practical advantage. I add and remove fields, show fields only for certain products, apply role-based or quantity-based pricing, and restrict shipping methods by cart contents. WooCommerce now ships two checkouts, the classic shortcode version and the newer block version. Custom fields work differently in each, so I confirm which one your theme and plugins support before writing code.

Product logic gets the same care. Variable products with many attributes, deposits, bundles, made-to-order items and bookings can often be handled with one well-chosen extension plus a small custom plugin. I put custom code in its own plugin, never in the theme's functions file, so a theme update cannot wipe it. Payment gateways and shipping zones are configured and tested with sandbox orders before launch.

WooCommerce speed problems and how I fix them

WooCommerce speed depends on hosting more than any plugin setting. Cart, checkout and account pages cannot be served from a page cache, so each of those requests hits PHP and the database. Cheap shared hosting struggles with that. I check server response time first. If the host is the bottleneck, I say so plainly and help you move.

Next comes the plugin audit. Stores I inherit often run several plugins doing overlapping jobs, each loading scripts on every page, including pages with no shop content. I remove duplicates, stop scripts loading where they are not needed, compress product images, and set caching rules that exclude cart and checkout correctly. On older stores I also clear expired sessions and transients from the database. High-Performance Order Storage can help stores with large order tables, and I check plugin compatibility before enabling it.

WooCommerce versus Shopify for your next store

I build on both, so I have no reason to push either. WooCommerce gives you full control of code, checkout and data, and the core plugin is free. The cost is responsibility. Hosting, updates, backups and security are yours, or mine on a maintenance plan. Shopify takes those jobs away, charges a monthly fee, and limits checkout changes on its standard plans.

Pick this service if the store shares a site with a blog, courses or memberships, or needs pricing and checkout rules Shopify cannot express. If you would rather never think about hosting, look at my Shopify store design service. If you are on WooCommerce and want out, the Shopify migration service covers that move. Projects here start at $599, with a fixed quote within one business day. Small repairs are billed at $50 an hour.

WooCommerce Development: the questions buyers ask.

Shopify or WooCommerce?

Shopify if you want the least maintenance and the store is the whole business. WooCommerce if the store lives inside a content-heavy WordPress site or needs custom logic. I build both and will recommend honestly.

Can you fix a WooCommerce store that someone else built?

Yes. Repair work is a regular part of what I do. Typical jobs are checkout errors after a plugin update, payment gateways that stopped working, and order emails not sending. I start on a staging copy, find the conflict, and fix it there before touching the live store. Small repairs are billed at $50 an hour, and larger rebuilds get a fixed quote.

Which payment gateways can you set up on WooCommerce?

Any gateway that offers a WooCommerce plugin or an API. Stripe and PayPal are the usual choices for US stores, and both have official extensions. I configure the gateway, connect webhooks so order statuses update correctly, test in sandbox mode, and then run one small live order with a refund. Tell me your country and business type first, since gateway approval depends on both.

Do I need special hosting for WooCommerce?

You need better hosting than a brochure site does. Cart and checkout pages bypass page caching, so the server does real work for every shopper. Look for a host with current PHP versions, server-level caching that respects WooCommerce's rules, daily backups and a staging environment. I can review your current plan and tell you whether it is the cause of a slow checkout.

Can WooCommerce handle subscriptions, memberships or bookings?

Yes, through extensions. WooCommerce has paid extensions for subscriptions, memberships and bookings, and they work alongside normal products. My job is choosing the right one, setting renewal and cancellation rules, connecting the gateway so recurring payments work, and styling the account pages. Where an extension falls short, I add a small custom plugin instead of stacking more add-ons.
