What does WordPress Development include?

I am a WordPress developer for hire who builds, repairs and speeds up business sites on Elementor, Divi, WPBakery and custom themes. The service suits owners who need a new WordPress site, or who have one that is slow, hacked or too fragile to update. You end up with a site that loads quickly, updates safely and can be edited by your own team.

A good fit if

  • Business owners who want a WordPress site their team can edit
  • Slow, hacked or half-finished WordPress sites that need a rescue
  • Sites that need custom post types, forms or integrations without ten new plugins

Probably not for you if

  • Template installs with stock content and no customization
  • Web apps with complex logic that belong in a custom framework
  • Owners who never want to think about updates, who suit Webflow better

What changes for your business?

Custom WordPress theme versus page builder

A page builder such as Elementor or Divi lets your team change layouts by dragging blocks around. That freedom has a cost. Builders add their own markup, styles and scripts to every page, and a site can end up tied to the builder for good. For most small business sites the trade is worth it, because edits happen in minutes and nobody needs to call a developer.

A custom theme goes the other way. I write only the templates the site needs and register custom post types for content such as services, locations or team members. Editors get plain fields to fill in. The pages come out lighter, and the design cannot be broken by accident. I recommend this route for content-heavy sites, sites where speed is a priority, and teams that publish often but rarely change layouts.

How I fix a slow WordPress site

I measure before I change anything. I run the key pages through PageSpeed Insights and note which requests take the longest. Then I check the hosting: the PHP version, the server response time and whether any page caching is active. Many slow sites I see run an outdated PHP version with no page cache at all. Fixing those two things often does more than any optimization plugin.

Next comes the plugin list. I look for plugins that load scripts on every page but are used on one, plugins that duplicate each other, and plugins nobody remembers installing. Images get resized and converted to modern formats. Fonts get trimmed to the weights in use. The database gets cleared of old revisions and expired transients. All of this happens on a staging site first, so the live site never breaks in the middle of a fix.

WordPress security hardening after a cleanup

Hacked sites I am asked to clean usually share the same causes. There is a plugin abandoned by its author, a pirated premium theme, a weak admin password or an old developer account nobody removed. Cleaning means replacing WordPress core files with fresh copies and reinstalling plugins and themes from their original sources. I also remove unknown admin users and check the database and uploads folder for injected code.

Hardening is what stops the repeat. I change every password and the security keys in wp-config, turn off file editing from the dashboard and limit login attempts. Admins get two-factor login, and the site moves to a supported PHP version. I set up off-site backups and a security scan on a schedule. If you want this watched every month instead of once, my website maintenance plan covers it.

Guides written from the same client work, with the numbers I use to quote.

WordPress Development: the questions buyers ask.

Elementor or Divi?

Elementor for most new builds because it is faster and more widely supported. Divi if your existing site already uses it. Custom themes for sites where speed matters more than editability.

Can you fix a slow WordPress site?

Yes. Speed fixes are a fixed-price job: caching, image optimization, plugin cleanup, database cleanup and hosting recommendations.

Can you take over a WordPress site another developer built?

Yes. I start by copying the site to staging and reading what is there. That means the theme, any child theme, the plugin list and the custom code in functions.php. I tell you what is safe to keep and what should be replaced. Then I make your changes in a way that leaves the previous developer's working code alone.

My site uses WPBakery. Should I keep it or rebuild?

Keep it if the site works and your team is used to it. I can build new pages and fix layouts inside WPBakery. Rebuild when the theme is no longer updated or the site is slow beyond repair. WPBakery stores layouts as shortcodes, so switching builders means rebuilding each page. I quote that work page by page.

Do I need to change hosting for my WordPress site?

Only if the host is the bottleneck. I check the PHP versions on offer, the server response time and whether the plan includes staging and backups. If those are fine, the site stays where it is. If the server is slow before WordPress even loads, no plugin will fix that. In that case I recommend a move and handle the transfer.

How much does it cost to hire a WordPress developer?

My WordPress projects start at $449, and small fixes can be done hourly at $50 an hour. Send me the site and what you need, and I reply with a fixed quote within one business day. New clients pay half up front and half on delivery. Every project includes 30 days of fixes after delivery.
